We had a good day of visiting new friends and going to an English speaking church. After doing some laundry and such things at Ricky’s house, we went to Pastor Juan and his wife Maria’s house in Miraflores for lunch.
They knew Deryk and Serena Livingston when they lived in Connecticut.
We had a wonderful Peruvian lunch and shared what the Lord had called each of us to do.
Pastor Juan is with South American Mission Society and is seeking to encourage and draw together the 7 Episcopal church’s in Lima.
He and his wife are a friendly and sweet spirited couple happy in their service to the Lord.
Maria has a ministry to a poor area in Lima where she has Sunday school for 120 children on Sunday morning then does a teaching for the adults in the afternoon.
They are Colombian and have been missionaries in Hondurous for 10 years before they came here 1 ½ years ago.
They have 3 sons, one who is in college in the states.
The other 2 go to the English highschool in Lima and are very Americanized.
We had a lovely visit with them and were invited to go with Maria the next morning.
After this visit, Ricky brought us to meet two interpreters for AIM.
We went to Starbucks and enjoyed some mango drinks and discovered that Sophia is a lover of coffee…something we haven’t had much of here.
Sophia is very lively, friendly and talkative.
The other interpreter, Marolina, was a little older and I talked with her about what it was like working for Christian organizations.
She tells me that AIM provides better for the interpreters than others which pleased me.
Marolina brought us to an English speaking church after our meeting.
The pastor is from Boston and the whole service is in English.
It gives people a chance to practice their English both in listening and speaking.
Last night was a special Thanksgiving service where Pastor Steve gave a history of Thanksgiving a lesson from Scripture on giving thanks to the Lord.
Afterwards the people had a chance to share what they were thankful for.
The microphone was passed around the room and many people shared how God had blessed them through the year.
There were healings and salvation of family members that topped the lists along with good jobs and gratefulness for God working in their personal lives.
After the service, they served turkey sandwiches, pound cake and coffee.
