Childhood was delayed for a Peruvian boy named Jesus.
His mother worked all the time and left him to fend for himself on the streets.
A gang of boys would taunt him and began to abuse him.
At three his mother completely abandoned him.
He was homeless and the gang of boys considered him “their boy”.
They would gang rape him.
This went on for several months until a pastor found him on the street and took him.
He and his wife tried to feed and care for him, but the gang of boys found out where he was.
They intimidated the pastor and threatened him until he was afraid for his life.
In the middle of the night, the pastor took Jesus and knocked on the door of Hagar de Ninos.
The pastor asked Fleix and Erica, the directors of the orphanage, if they would take him in until they could find another home for him.
The pastor never returned.
Jesus is now 10 and you wouldn’t know by looking at him that he had experienced anything tragic in his life.
He is vibrant, fun loving and has one of the biggest smiles on his face of all 15 children at the orphanage.
I had a picture of Jesus that I wanted to share with you but learned that I cannot put pictures of the orphans on the internet for fear of them being exploited. Others have tragic stories of one sort or another, too.
Felix, Erica, love and discipline all the children equally as their own.
The children watch out for each other, too, and are amazingly happy.
We are the ones who are blessed when we go to the orphanage to visit.
The children all run up to us hugging us, welcoming us and many wanting to be picked up and snuggled.
